At Midtown Medical Clinic we are committed to working with you to improve your health and making every effort to prevent illness now and in the future.
One of the ways this can be achieved is by completing a preventative health assessment.
WHAT IS A HEALTH ASSESSMENT?
A Health Assessment is a detailed check-up looking for problems or risk factors that can be identified early and managed in order to prevent complications in the future.
For example, identifying a raised cholesterol, a tendency to develop diabetes or an increased risk of cancer before they have caused negative effects on your health.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR A HEALTH ASSESSMENT?
The Federal Government has recognised the benefits of Health Assessments and have identified specific circumstances to encourage their use and provide appropriate Medicare rebates.
These include individuals who are:
- 45 – 49 years of age at risk of developing a chronic disease
- 40 – 49 years of age at risk of developing diabetes
- Aged 75 years or older
WHAT DOES A HEALTH ASSESSMENT INVOLVE?
You can discuss with your usual General Practitioner or one of our Practice Nurses if you fit the recognised Preventative Health Assessment criteria.
If you do, your General Practitioner will arrange appropriate tests for you to complete.
A 30 - 45 minute appointment with one of our Practice Nurses is then arranged one week after test completion.
This is followed by a 15 – 30 minute appointment with your General Practitioner.
Your appointment with the Practice Nurse and General Practitioner will include a detailed history and examination, additional investigations if required and the provision of detailed advice and information.
WHAT ARE THE COSTS OF A PREVENTATIVE HEALTH ASSESSMENT?
The out-of-pocket expense (after the Medicare rebate) of the Federal Government Preventative Health Assessment varies between $73.00 and $115.00 depending on the time involved.
A GREAT INVESTMENT IN YOUR FUTURE HEALTH AND WELLBEING!
Remember, even if you don’t meet the Federal Government Preventative Health Assessment criteria it is still important that you undergo regular health checks to assist in the prevention of chronic disease.
