On the 12th of March 2018 changes to medical decision making laws take effect.
Under the new laws, Victorians are able to create an advance care directive, giving them the opportunity to express their values, beliefs and preferences about their health care and medical treatment.
Advance care planning helps people close to you know what is important to you about the level of healthcare and quality of life you would want if, for some reason, you are unable to participate in the discussion.
Discussing and writing down your wishes for future care will help the person you choose as your medical treatment decision maker to feel comfortable about the decisions they make on your behalf.
At Midtown Medical Clinic we strongly encourage all of our patients to discuss with their GP creating an advance care directive.
