Midtown Medical Clinic has received a supply of flu vaccines for all age groups and appointments can now be made. As we do every year, we strongly encourage everyone to be vaccinated, particularly this year with COVID-19 infection still being a risk. The flu vaccine does not protect you from COVID-19 infection (as they are completely different viruses).
This year we do need to pay more attention to the timing of the flu vaccine. The flu vaccine must not be given within two weeks of receiving the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. Depending on when you are eligibile to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, you may have your flu vaccine before your first COVID-19 vaccine, or the flu vaccine in between your two COVID-19 vaccine doses. You can read more about the COVID-19 vaccine here.
For some members of the population the flu vaccine will be free. This includes:
• children aged six months to less than five years
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged from six months
• pregnant women (at any stage of pregnancy)
• people aged from 65 years
• people aged from six months with medical conditions putting them at increased risk of severe influenza and its complications
For other members of the population the cost of the vaccine is $30.00.
As our Nurses will be working hard on the roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine, we have several of our Doctors who will be available to administer the flu vaccine in a short consultation for no out of pocket expense, provided you are covered by Medicare. If you are not covered by Medicare there may be a fee of between $18.00 and $38.00 depending on the length and complexity of your consultation. You can book online to see one of these doctors:
- Dr Duc Tran
- Dr Ben Teoh
- Dr Mark Martakis
- Dr Howard Goldenberg
- Dr Anne Jackson
- Dr Anh Nguyen
- Dr Harry Unglik
- Dr Zeeshan Arain
If you prefer to see your own Doctor for the flu vaccine, there will be a cost for both the vaccine and the consultation. The out of pocket fee for the consultation will be between $55.00 and $95.00.
