On the 1st of November 2019 a new suite of Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) items will be introduced to support a model of best practice evidence based care for patients with anorexia nervosa and other eligible patients with eating disorders.
This new item structure means that eligible patients will be able to receive a Medicare rebate when their regular General Practitioner develops an Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan. The plan will then allow up to a total of 40 Medicare subsidised Psychology sessions and 20 Medicare subsidised Dietetic sessions in a 12 month period.
There are strict eligibility requirements that must be met in order to obtain access to these services.
Many of our Doctors are highly experienced in the management of eating disorders and can certainly assist in determining eligibility and co-ordinating care.
